Obituary

Doyle Dean Rahjes was Born on October 17, 1930 to August "Gus" and Leona Blanche (White) Rahjes. He passed away on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Good Samaritan Colonial Villa, Alma, NE. He learned hard work while growing up on his family's farm. Gathering eggs, feeding chickens, milking cows and other chores taught him the importance of fulfilling personal responsibilities and working together as a family. The Phillips County farmer provided leadership on several issues facing agriculture. He was well-known for his affirming Christian faith and passion for rural Kansas.
Doyle attended a one-room school house in rural Phillips County during his early grade school years and graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1947. His dad felt it would be good for Doyle to become involved in FFA and over the years Doyle would give credit to his adviser, Mr. Frank Freeman that gave him the confidence to speak in public and understand parliamentary procedure.
Doyle married Charlotte L. Miller, daughter of William and Ella (Dettmer) Miller on October 23, 1949 at the Church of God in Phillipsburg. Early on, Doyle and Charlotte's brother Dean were partners in M-R Truck Line, they trucked cattle from Kansas farms to the Kansas City Stockyards. As the Korean War heated up, Doyle, like so many other men of his generation, received a draft notice and was inducted into the Army in 1952.
While in the Army, it didn't take long for Doyle's leadership to rise and be noticed by others. In a remarkable short period of time, Doyle rose in rank from a Private to a Commissioned Officer. He served in Germany during the Korean, assigned to the 94th AAAIS Europe. He resigned his commission as a captain in 1959.
Doyle became active in Phillips County Farm Bureau in 1950 as a young farmer. Soon after his election to the Kansas Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Doyle was elected to serve as Vice President in 1972 and later served as the farm organization's President from 1983-1994. He also served nine years on the American Farm Bureau Federation's Board of Directors.
He participated in many trade missions which took him to all parts of the world to advocate and seek to open trading relationships with many countries.
Doyle was a director for the First National Bank and Trust, Phillipsburg. He also served the last 30 years as a trustee of the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, Logan, where for many years he chaired the scholarship committee. He also enjoyed his years as a member of the Kansas 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees.
Doyle's Christian faith was infused with his relations with others and his kind gentle spirit. His advice was often sought by others seeking his perspective and support. He would often take several hours each day listening to members, staff and others sharing a concern or challenge. His attentive eyes and consoling words provided encouragement and support.
Doyle was a longtime member in the Community Church of God in Phillipsburg. He sang at many weddings and funerals and was a member of Gideon's International.
More than work, travel or honors, Doyle enjoyed people. He adored his wife Charlotte, his children, in-laws and grandchildren, but he also had a special heart for his nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
