Obituary

Duane "Pete" Peterson of Agra, Kansas, passed away at Phillips County Hospital the afternoon of Friday, April 26, 2024, at the age of 79 years.

He was born July 17, 1944, to Carl Oscar Peterson and Ruby Marcella Miller in McCook, Nebraska. He attended grade school at Maywood, Nebraska and Jr. High and High School at McCook until the age of 17 when he joined the U.S. Navy from 1962-1965. He was proud of his service to his country and received recognition from the state of Kansas in 2012 for his service during the Vietnam War.

After his military service he was united in marriage to Donna Faye Morgan, June 4, 1966, and to this union three children were born. The family made their home in Kensington, Kansas, but for the past twenty years resided in Agra, Kansas.

Duane and his wife Donna owned and operated Pete's Place in Kensington for several years. In addition, Duane was a service-man for KN Energy for a number of years and in 1995 went into business for himself establishing Central Gas and Appliance where he worked on and installed HVAC systems for many clients up until the day he passed. He always talked about retiring, but said he really didn't have the time. Duane's hobbies were fixing things and taking care of his kids even after they were grown. He also enjoyed playing poker several times a week. His poker buddies jokingly nicknamed him "Cheatin' Pete", even though they said he didn't actually ever cheat, but they joked that he cheated because he won so often.

He is survived by his children, daughter Annette Lowe (Michael) of Alma, NE; sons Michael Peterson (Tamra) of Lexington, NE and Jim Peterson (James Hund) of Meriden, KS; his sister, Marcella Carr-Corothers, Ft. Myers, FL; brother, Marvin "Pete" Peterson, Phillipsburg, KS, 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Cremation was planned.  A memorial service will be Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Becky Saddler officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, for visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to Phillips County Hospital or Kansas Honor Flight.
