Eileen Stackhouse was born in Inavale, Nebraska June 27, 1923 the daughter of Grover & Ella (Deisley) Cary and left this life February 28, 2016 in Kensington, Kansas at the age of 92.
The family lived on a small farm south of the Republican River near Inavale and they were completely destroyed by the big flood in June of 1935. They moved to Red Cloud where she
attended Kindergarten through High School, graduating in May 1941. She was married to Alfred Stackhouse of Lebanon KS June 9, 1941. He was inducted into the Army and attended O.C.S. and Eileen was able to go with him on assignments. They lived in Ft. Knox, KY, Camp Campbell, KY and Camp Chaffee in Fort Smith Arkansas where their first daughter Judy Eileen was born. They had two daughters - Judy Eileen was born in 1943 in Fort Smith, Arkansas and Sue Anne was born in 1947 at Red Cloud, Nebraska after Al had returned from his overseas duty. They then lived in Red Cloud, Lexington and North Platte, Nebraska where he sold
insurance.
In 1952 they bought a grocery store at Clayton, Kansas. In 1963 they bought the grocery store in Kirwin and moved to Kirwin, Kansas. In 1977 they retired from the grocery business and both worked for Eastern Heights School until 1984.
They took a trip to California to visit their daughters and to Chesapeake Bay to visit Army friends. She flew to Hawaii to assist Judy with her second baby in 1967 and flew to Michigan to
help with Judy's third baby in 1969. In 2006 she flew to Washington state to spend time with Sue and in 2010 she and Judy flew to Ohio to visit her 3 granddaughters and 8 great-grandchildren.
Eileen was on the original Arts & Crafts Committee, American Legion Auxiliary President, Auxiliary Secretary- Treasurer, Kirwin City Library Board, United Methodist Church
Choir Director, Church Organist for 19 years, United Methodist Women President, and was a member of the Phillips County Arts Council, and the Agra Red Hat Society.
She moved into the Prairie Haven Nursing home in Kensington in July of 2014 and made many friends there. She loved the caretakers and enjoyed the residents.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfred in 2003 and her daughter Sue in 2012. She is survived by her daughter Judy and husband Bruce Stockman of Kirwin, three
granddaughters; Stephenie Laughlin (Tim), Melanie Yozwiak (Chuck) Kristina Yozwiak, (Kevin) and eight great-grandchildren; Nieces; & Nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Kirwin United Methodist Church in Kirwin with Pastor Deb Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirwin Cemetery.
Mrs. Stackhouse will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Tuesday & 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661.
