Elaine Joyce Mooney passed away on October 13, 2019 at the age of 73 at the Phillips County Hospital.
Elaine was born January 23, 1946 in Kensington, Kansas to parents Irwin C. "Shorty" Sims and Thelma D. Sims. She attended school at Agra and graduated with the class of 1964. After high school Elaine married Ronald Edward "Eddie" Molzahn. Elaine and Eddie had two sons, Doug and Dan Molzahn and lived in Grand Island, Nebraska at the time of Eddie's untimely death. Elaine moved back to Agra and was united in marriage with Michael Lee Mooney of Phillipsburg and to this union a daughter, Angel was born.
Elaine was preceded in death by her Father, Shorty Sims, husbands Eddie Molzahn and Mike Mooney, a son-in-law, Brian Miner, and a granddaughter, Chassidy Breese. She is survived by her Mother, Thelma Sims of Phillipsburg, a son Doug Molzahn and wife Nancy of Agra, a son Dan Molzahn and wife Julie of Esbon, and a daughter, Angel Miner of Agra. Elaine was blessed with nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Brandi Archer, husband Jason, and their son Miles of Logan, Dustin Breese, wife Autumn and their children Keegan, Sutton, and Everlee of Logan, Brady Breese and fiancé Allyson of Logan, Brody Molzahn and fiancé Taylor of Alma, Terek Molzahn and fiancé Emma of Alma, Trey Molzahn of Hutchinson, Kody Molzahn and wife Cheyenne of Smith Center, Breck Miner of Phillipsburg, and Dalton Miner of Hays. Elaine leaves behind many people in the community whom she considered good friends, and although she did not have siblings, she always counted her special friend, Linda McDowell, as a sister.
Along with helping run a construction company and lumber yard through the years, Elaine worked as a cook for the Eastern Heights school district in Agra. She later worked many years for Wyrill Farms of Kirwin and completed her working career at the Phillips County Hospital as Director of Environmental Services. Elaine was also involved with many community projects and events over the years and was always considered one who could be counted on the get the job done. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren as well as playing bridge with friends, talking-Tuesdays with Anita and Bette, completing puzzles, Bingo, and cross-stitch. Elaine was passionate about giving gifts. Whether it was Christmas or a birthday, she lived to see the enjoyment of the kids and grandkids when they opened that special gift that she had put so much thought and effort into, She will be deeply missed, but will be remembered not only for her kind and giving soul, but for her resolve during many challenges of life.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Becky Saddler officiating. Burial will follow in the Agra Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Wed. & 9:00 to 9:00 Thurs. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope in the Heartland cancer fund or the Phillips County Hospital Physical Therapy Dept.
