Phillipsburg resident, Elaine K. Nuzum passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Great Plains Health Hospital in North Platte, NE at the age of 76.
She was born Elaine Kay Parker on October 28, 1944 in McCook, NE the daughter of Richard and Lucille (Poyser) Parker. She lived her first 18 years in Long Island, KS attending Elementary and High School there. Elaine then worked in Norton, KS for two summers before she went on to attend Kansas Wesleyan University in 1962 and 1963. She then went to work at Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Company in September 1963 until June of 1967.
She was united in marriage to Paul Nuzum on July 3, 1966 in Long Island, KS. To this union four children were born: Karen, Kathy, Kirk, and Kimberly. In 1967 she took time off of work to be a homemaker for three years. She then went to work as a receptionist for Kansas Nebraska, now known as KN Energy, from 1970 until her retirement in 1995.
Elaine was active in her churches; she was a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Supt., and Choir Member while attending the United Methodist Church in Phillipsburg and a substitute Sunday School Teacher while attending the First Assembly of God Church in Phillipsburg. She was also a member of Joy Fellowship, Federated Women's Club, and Club 20. Elaine was saved by God's Grace in 1951 and renewed her faith in 1987.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Carol Steelsmith.
Survivors include her husband Paul of Phillipsburg, KS; son Kirk and wife Misty of Norton, KS; daughters Karen Beim and husband Mike of Keokuk, IA, Kathy Calkins and husband Kevin of Belleville, KS, and Kim Dayhoff and husband Neil of Osage City, KS; a brother Blaine Parker and wife Marilyn of Sylvan Grove, KS; 8 grandchildren: Bradley Nuzum and wife RaeAnna, Shawn Calkins, Amanda Day and husband Sean, Joey Beim, Jessica Patterson and significant other Philip Tyson, Kylie Davis and husband Damien, Brant Dayhoff, and Kiersten Dayhoff; and 9 great grandchildren: Davine, Savannaha, and Benelli Nuzum, Lucy and Issie Calkins, Emerson, Everly, and Luna Day, and Barrett Davis.
A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Jay Brandon officiating. The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.
Mrs. Nuzum will lie in state from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday and Noon until 9 p.m. Monday in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with the friends receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday evening for visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
