Obituary

Ella Irene (Meadows) Brooks, 86, died September 28, 2014 in Logan, Kansas. She was born October 13, 1926 in Depwade, Harleston, England, the daughter of Frank & Hilda Meadows.
Irene met her husband-to-be while he was stationed in England during World War II. On January 1, 1944, she married Cecil Nate Brooks in Great Bromley, England. Irene & Cecil were the parents of four children: Hilda May, Dorothy Jean, Dale J., and Rebecca Kaye.
Following the Armistice Declaration Cecil & Irene moved their family, now with a young daughter, to the United States, where they settled in Logan, Kansas.
Irene, more often called Rene' by friends & family, completed the required course for U.S. citizenship and became a naturalized citizen during ceremonies at the Judicial District Court in Oberlin, Kansas on February 23, 1953.
Rene' worked in several businesses throughout her life, including Limes Sundries, Logan Manor, and Phillips County Hospital.
In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Theresa Withington; her husband, Cecil, on December 10, 1977; and two sisters, Hilda and Margaret.
She is survived by her children: Hilda & Robert Withington of Tonganoxie, KS; Dorothy Crawford of El Dorado, KS; Dale & Marilyn Brooks of Hays, KS; and Rebecca Ubben of Phillipsburg, KS. Eleven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren also survive: Troy & Tu Withington, children Henry, Walter and Mimi, of Raytown, MO; Elizabeth & Shane Bacon, children Kennedy and Reese, of Bonner Springs, KS; Mindy & Chad Cormier, children Brooklynn and Annabelle, of Keosauqua, IA; Shawn & Julia Crawford, children Frazier and Xavier, of Bartlesville, OK; Brance & Sherri Crawford, children Noah, Cooper, Taylor and Sophia, of El Dorado, KS; Travis & Nina Brooks of Independence, MO and children Harley, of Phoenix, AZ and Corey of Hays, KS; Vanessa & Kevin Clark, children Hunter and Noah, of Abilene, KS; Lance & Brandi Brooks and son, Peyton, of Hays, KS; Kandace & Josh Gooch, children Aubrey and Avery, of Hutchinson, KS; and Andrew & Brittany Ubben and daughter, Nora, of Littleton, CO.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, KS.
Mrs. Brooks will lie in-state Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home in Phillipsburg.
