Obituary

Ethel Marie (Hadley) Larick, second child of Truman Hadley & Violet (Wieczorkowski) Hadley, was born in Prairie View, Kansas on June 21, 1922. She passed away at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas on October 30, 2012 at the age of 90.
Ethel attended school through eighth grade and then worked for local ladies around Prairie View as a housekeeper & nanny. On June 5, 1958 she married Donald Lewis Larick in Ionia, Kansas. Donald built their home on the family farm near Agra where the couple spent their life together. Although no children were born to this union, both of them loved children, especially all their nieces and nephews.
Ethel enjoyed being a homemaker and farm wife. She took special pride in her garden each year and loved the time she spent outdoors. She also enjoyed feeding and caring for all the cats they had on the farm. After Don's death in 1992, many evenings were spent visiting with her brother-in-law under the large tree between their houses. Several years later health issues required that Ethel move into the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, but she always considered Agra her "home."
Ethel often mentioned that some of her favorite memories were of playing cards and dominoes with her father every evening. Her love of playing cards, dominoes and doing "word search" puzzles continued throughout her life. At the retirement center she often defeated staff members at dominoes and frequently applied her "own rules" to help her achieve the win! She also had a collection of stuffed bears in her room and was always proud to show off her "babies". Everyone enjoyed her smile, positive attitude and her bright red jacket!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Truman & Violet Hadley; brother, Albert & wife, Fern; sister, Lucille Kolsky; brothers-in-law, Willie Larick & wife, Ruth; Edwin Larick and Loren Larick; and her husband, Don.
Survivors include her brother, John Hadley & wife, Faye, of Lawrence, KS; brother-in-law, Gerold Kolsky; five nephews: Wayne Larick of Kensington; Warren Larick & wife, Jen, of Agra; John Hadley & wife, Glenda, of Glenrock, WY; Ed Hadley & wife, Karen, of Overland Park; and Ken Hadley & wife, Deborah, of Phillipsburg; three nieces: Marlene Smith of Holdrege, NE; Mary Breit & husband, Gordon, of Utica; and Edna Bolen & husband, Bryan, of Sharon Springs.
