Fairie Irene Gaines, daughter of Alvin and Rose ( McDermed) Plymesser, was born September 14, 1918 near Kirwin, KS and passed away from this life on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Phillips County Retirement Center at the age of 96.
On December 23, 1936 Fairie married Leo W Gaines in Kirwin. They were privileged to have celebrated many years of marriage.
Fairie will be best remembered by her kindness to others and her love for her family and friends. She faithfully attended the Phillipsburg Church of the Nazarene for many years and loved singing hymns as she worked around the house. She was a devout Christian and proud to have taught Sunday school for over 30 years.
She also enjoyed gardening and making all sorts of delicious treats for family, friends, and neighbors. No one was left hungry after a visit with her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leo; Sisters Fern V. Lemon, and Opal E. Philbrick; Granddaughters, Monica Pineda and Mona Petersen.
Survivors include her daughters; Idris Shannon of Miltonvale, KS, Arlis Schild and Husband Neil of Sacramento, CA, Sallie Jansonius and husband John of Phillipsburg, Connie Martin of Fort Worth, TX, and son Al Gaines and wife Sheila of Smith Center, KS. Fourteen Grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Monday, May 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Dave Pugh officiating.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5-9 p.m. and Sunday from noon – 9 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
