FitzGerald Haskett, age 79, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022. Gerald was born February 14, 1942, in Sumner Township of Phillips Country Kansas. Gerald was the oldest of nine children to Cecil Earl Haskett and Rose Ellen (Allen) Haskett.
Known as "Lightning" to friends, Gerald graduated from Naponee High School and started working on the construction of I-80 in Nebraska. In January of 1964, Gerald was drafted into the Army. He completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and then was transferred to Fort Sill in Oklahoma before he was deployed to Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge in January 1966 with the rank of Specialist E-5, Gerald joined the Army Reserves for two years.
After his discharge from the Army, Gerald returned home to the family farm, north of Agra, KS, where he raised cattle and hogs. Throughout the years, he worked at the Elevators in Agra and Naponee, drove a school bus for a local district, worked for a local farmer and eventually retired from Tamko Roofing Products.
Gerald married the love of his life, Jeanette Kaylene (Thomas/Abbott) on November 8, 1985. Gerald gained three wonderful stepchildren and later two sons blessed their union.
Working the farm and spending time with family were the greatest enjoyments of his life. This man of Faith, with a generous heart, Gerald was always willing to give to those around him.
He is survived by his children: Joe Haskett of Agra, Wade and Valerie Haskett of Agra, Kenton and Darla Abbott of Ellinwood, Regina and Neil Lutgen of McPherson, and Andrea Abbott of Agra; grandchildren: Michael, Luke, and Daniel; siblings and their spouses: Larry Pat and Ruth Haskett, Nancy and Larry Dix, Judy and Kenny Holloway, Janice and Mike Patterson, Sally and Dean Thomas, and Nicholas and Paula Haskett; along with his many loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Gerald was proceeded in death by his wife, parents, siblings: Michael Haskett and Susan and Leon Keim.
Gerald was devoted to his family and was an amazing father, grandfather, uncle, brother, son, and friend. His lessons on life will live on through those that knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2022 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Scott Randall and JD Washington officiating. T he services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page . Burial will follow in the Haskett Cemetery, Phillips Co, KS.
Gerald will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday evening for visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Hicks-Siegel American Legion Post No. 364, Naponee, NE.
