Obituary

Floyd Lee Allen, 58, passed away November 30, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Smith Center, Kansas on January 4, 1953 to Howard F. and Marjorie Jane (Stevens) Allen. Floyd attended grade school in Speed, Kansas and finished his education in the Phillipsburg school system, graduating from high school with the class of 1972.

After graduation he joined the Navy, serving from July 24, 1972 through July 11, 1975. He returned to Phillipsburg after his military service and worked at Tamko Asphalt Products, Inc. for more than 15 years.

The greatest joys in Floyd's life were his four children: Jason L. Shelledy, Jeremiah J. Allen, Howard L. Allen and Irene M. Allen.

One of his favorite pastimes was spending time out on the lake teaching his kids, nieces, nephews and later, his grandchildren, how to fish. Floyd also enjoyed playing men's softball, coaching little kids' baseball, playing cards with friends and dancing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Allen; his mother, Marjorie (Allen) Gingles; his sister, Zona Starkey; and his stepfather, Frank Adrian Gingles.

Survivors include his children, Jason Shelledy & wife, Beth, of LaJunta, CO; Jeremiah Allen & wife, Andra, of Colby, KS; Howard Allen of Phillipsburg, KS; and Irene DeWitt of Logan, KS; five grandchildren; his brother, Dennis Allen, and sister, Susan Parker, both of Phillipsburg, KS.

Floyd was a loved father and grandfather and beloved brother and friend, who will be deeply missed by his family and all those who knew him.

Cremation was planned. A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 5, at 10:00 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Inurnment will follow in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Stuttgart.

Visitation will be Sunday from noon – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
