Frances Lorraine "Fran" Erickson, daughter of Ben H. & Grace (Clanton) Wallen, was born March 3, 1927 in Fairland, Oklahoma, and passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 87.
Fran entered into the United State Air Force on June 24, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas. There, she met and married Curt Erickson on October 26, 1952. She was honorably discharged on March 2, 1953, and always spoke with pride about her military service.
Fran & Curt made their home in Phillipsburg where they raised their sons, Ed and Bruce. The couple managed the city swimming pool for several years where she also taught swimming lessons.
Fran initially earned her high school GED in Detroit and later attended one year of Junior College in San Antonio after her discharge from the Air Force; however, she never really felt like she physically "finished high school". So when her son, Ed, was in high school she actually attended her Junior and Senior years' classes at Phillipsburg, graduating with her son, Ed, in 1971.
She was a faithful and active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg and also a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International.
In her spare time she loved to play golf, play cards, and spend time at the lake boating and fishing. Fran & Curt enjoyed going to the dog races and traveling the country in their motor home, spending winters in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Her parents, Ben and Grace Wallen, one brother, and two sisters, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Curt of the home; 2 sons, Ed & wife, Janese of North Platte, Nebraska and Bruce & wife, Rhonda of Overland Park, Kansas; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Lorna Paulus officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the United States Air Force will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
Mrs. Erickson will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or Phillips County Retirement Center.
