Frank Adrian Gingles, son of Frank John & Hazel (Klink) Gingles, was born August 23, 1919 in Speed, Kansas and died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 92.
Adrian, as he was known to friends and family, joined the Army on March 4, 1941 and served in the artillery division during World War II. While in the service, he was also a member in one of the last working horse units in the Calvary. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1945.
On April 7, 1943, Adrian was united in marriage to Thelma Grace McLaughlin. This union was blessed with three children: a son, Leonard, and two daughters, Leola and Barbara. The couple enjoyed 27 years together before Thelma's death on April 22, 1970.
Adrian began working as a welder at K N Energy Natural Gas Company in Phillipsburg after his discharge from the Army. He was later promoted to the Foreman's position and retired after 40+ years of service.
Adrian married Marjorie (Stephens) Allen on July 17, 1971 in Phillipsburg. Following Adrian's retirement, the couple began delivering meals for the Golden Years Senior Center in Phillipsburg. For almost 30 years, Marjorie & Adrian furnished nourishment and offered friendship to many elderly citizens of the community who received Meals on Wheels. Marjorie Gingles passed away on February 16, 2008.
Adrian will be remembered as a loving husband and father who cherished all of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wives, Thelma and Marjorie, Adrian was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Aerial Lemon, and his stepdaughter, Zona Starkey.
Survivors include his daughters, Barbara Reed of Jerome, Idaho and Leola Gingles of Lincoln, NE; his son, Dr. Leonard Gingles & wife, Carla, of Childersburg, AL; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Armand Gingles & wife, Geneva, of Logan, KS; one sister, Arloa Clark of Cordyan, Iowa; and also by 3 stepchildren and many step grandchildren & step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661, with Pastor Tim Kraft officiating. Burial with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
Adrian will lie in state from Noon until 9 P.M. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. that evening for visitation in the funeral chapel.
