Fred R. "Bud" Henrichs died June 29, 2011 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 85. He was born July 11, 1925 in Miller, South Dakota to George & Sylvia (Hoogestraat) Henrichs.
In 1936, their family moved to Phillipsburg where Bud attended school and graduated with the Phillipsburg High School class of 1943.
After high school he served in the Army during World War II and spent time overseas in the Occupation Forces in Japan. Bud was honorably discharged from military service on January 1, 1947.
Bud had a career with CRA, Inc. for 30 years and with K N Energy, Inc. for 8 years. He also worked for Safeway prior to joining the service.
On September 12, 1948, Bud and Wanda Faye Barnes were united in marriage in Phillipsburg. They were blessed with one daughter, Amber. This year they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Bud was a lifetime member of the VFW and a faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church for 62 years, joining on April 17, 1949. He sang in the choir all of those years, served on the Session and was the Clerk for 16 years.
He blessed many families and friends through the years with his outstanding singing voice. For 47 years he performed "Sleep, Soldier Boy" at the Memorial Day services held each year in the Fairview Cemetery. He had also sung for 850 funerals, beginning back in 1961.
Bud was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who had a special place in his heart for daughter, Amber, and granddaughters, Renee and Melissa. He leaves a legacy of compassion to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
His parents; sister, Dorene; and brother, George, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda, of the home; daughter, Amber & husband, Gary Nonamaker, of Cedar, KS; and granddaughters, Renee and Melissa, both of Hays, KS.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 4, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the United Presbyterian Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Chris Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon – 9:00 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
Memorial contributions may be given to the United Presbyterian Church.
