Frieda Helen Nonamaker, the third of four children, was born on a farm
southwest of Cedar, Kansas on December 20, 1917 to Wilson and Clista (McCormick)
Nonamaker. She died at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the age of 93.
Frieda's education was received at Pleasant View Country School and Cedar Rural
High School, which she graduated from in 1935. In 1936 she began a two-year period of
teaching at Jaybird, a country school located south of Claudell, Kansas.
In 1938 Frieda attended Venus Beauty Academy in Wichita, Kansas. After
passing her state board exam, she worked from 1939 until 1944 with her older sister
Letha Nedrow, who owned "Letha's Beauty Shop" in Kirwin, Kansas.
Frieda was united in marriage to Robert D. Hagman on December 26, 1941 at
Smith Center, Kansas. Two days later "Bob" left to serve his country in the Asiatic-
Pacific Theater during WW II. After his return in 1944, he and Frieda lived near Camp
Johnston, Florida, where Bob served until receiving his honorable discharge in
September of 1945.
From 1945 until 1953 Bob and Frieda lived on two separate farms in the Glade and
Stockton, Kansas area. On May 13, 1953 they moved to their permanent home on a farm
southeast of Kirwin. Their son, Roger Dean, was born in 1954.
Bob was 45 when he preceded Frieda in death in 1963. After his death, Frieda
returned to her former occupation as a beautician in order to be at home with her nine-
year-old son Roger. From November 1963 until mid-August 1977, she maintained
"Frieda's Beauty Shop" in her own home.
On August 16, 1977 Frieda was united in marriage at Hill City, Kansas to William H. Campbell of Kensington. Their home was on her farm, where she continued to live after his death on June 16, 1986.
Throughout her lifetime, Frieda loved the outdoors. Family and friends all knew how much she enjoyed keeping her farmyard mowed.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sisters, Letha Nedrow and Velma Draper, a sister-in-law, Laura Nonamaker, two brothers-in-law, Clyde Draper and Kenneth Nedrow.
She is survived by her son Roger D. Hagman & fiancé Marcia Horn & her children, Zachery & Caleb all of Agra, Kansas; Grandson, James D. Hagman & wife, Jerissa of Phillipsburg; brother, Carl Nonamaker of Osborne, Kansas; and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. Burial followed in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Smith County, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to Center for Basic Cancer Research or American Heart Association.
