Phillipsburg resident, Gary Lee Dart, passed away on November 24, 2025, at the Phillips County Hospital, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, at the age of 87.
Gary was born on June 17, 1938, in Haddam, Kansas, to his parents Roy Franklin and Bonnie Irene (Folkner) Dart.
He was united in marriage to Wanda Lee Allen on September 6, 1957, in Munden, Kansas.
Gary was a lifelong resident of Phillipsburg, Kansas; he built a life grounded in love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family.
He spent more than 30 years working for Western Power and Centel, where he was known for his strong work ethic. He never was one to back down from a challenge. He also built his own business, Dart's Electric, pouring his skill, pride, and determination into every job.
As a husband and father, Gary loved fiercely and lived with quiet strength. The memories created with him will live forever in our hearts.
He was a steady and dependable provider, always ensuring his family had what they needed. But more than that, he provided through his presence.
At home, Gary found peace and purpose in his yard. He took pride in keeping it looking just right. It was a place where he could relax, reflect, and take joy in simple accomplishments. He also loved woodworking, making several pieces of unique furniture for his kids and grandkids. He even spent time with his grandkids making wood projects together.
His greatest happiness came from time spent with family and friends sharing stories, cracking jokes, or simply enjoying the moment. His laughter, quick wit, and gentle nature created warmth that made everyone feel welcome.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Bonnie Dart, and brother Donald Dart.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Wanda, of Phillipsburg, daughters Joni Hugunin and husband Hyle of Kirwin, Kansas, and Janet Whitman and husband Keith of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, son Jim Dart and wife Karie of Campbell, Texas, sisters Wanda Jandera and husband Jerrold of Logan, Kansas, Shirley Mason and husband Orvel of Arkansas City, Kansas, and Nancy Beneda of Alma, Kansas, as well as 13 grandchildren, and 32 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and many other family and friends.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and love - gifts that will continue to shape the lives of all who knew him.
A funeral service for Gary will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, with Pastor Art Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, in Phillipsburg, Kansas.
Gary will lie in state on Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The family will receive friends and family on Friday evening for a visitation from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, in Phillipsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Phillipsburg First Assembly Church or the ASPCA.
