IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary E.
Mulder
August 28, 1942 – March 16, 2023
Gary E. Mulder was born August 28, 1942 in Norton, Kansas to Ira and Hazel (Harper) Mulder. He passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at the Norton County Hospital at the age of 80.
Gary attended the Cactus and Timberlake country schools through 6 th grade then attended the Densmore school for two years. He completed all four years of high school in Logan and graduated with the class of 1960. After high school he attends Fort Hays State where he received a bachelor's degree in agriculture science.
Gary started his farming career early in life with his brother Darrell as their father's health was failing. Even though Gary attended college he came home every weekend to tend to the farm. On August 28 , 1965 he was married to Doris E. Stutterheim in Prairie View, KS. In 1966 Gary enlisted in the Army National Guard and was a member until 1972. Gary & Doris were blessed with 3 children Debra, Rex & Kristy.
Gary & Doris worked side by side farming and ranching for 57 years. Gary enjoyed seeing the crops grow and would often check them on Sunday afternoons. His absolute favorite time of year was harvest. His love to care for the livestock was very evident by the hours spent fencing, haying, and working cattle. He even learned to ride horses after his marriage to Doris, as many cattle were moved horseback. Gary never developed any hobbies (except for talking on the phone) as he thoroughly enjoyed working and doing things around the farm.
Gary was a servant of his community for many years. He served on the FSA Board, USD #326 Logan School Board, the Farm Bureau Board, and was on the Board of Directors for the First National Bank in Logan. He was a member of the Prairie View Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory several years.
Gary enjoyed the farm, but on occasion would take the family on trips. He enjoyed visiting his brothers and was usually willing try new experiences. He was a steward of the land; however he was talked into a sailboat experience with his older brother Dean. He affirmed that his love of the land was greater than for water. Gary and Doris took several trips together. The most memorable one was taking a trip to Alaska with family friends.
Gary loved attending his kids and later his grandkids sporting events and activities. Gary never played sports, but encouraged them all to participate and be a part of the team. Gary rarely quit farming early; however being in attendance of one of those events was a priority for him.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Ira and Hazel, brothers Dean and wife Nancy, James and wife Alrene, and Darrell.
Survivors include his wife Doris of Logan; son Rex of Logan; daughters Debra Alexander and husband David of Logan, Kristy West and husband Steve of Prairie View; and 3 grandchildren Kinzie Alexander, Jay Mulder & Tye West.
