Obituary

George Richard Russell of Agra, KS passed away at his home on June 6, 2023. George was born in Freedom Township, KS on March 22, 1947 to Charlie David Russell and Julia Alice (Ragsdale). George was raised in Phillips County, KS where he attended Phillipsburg Elementary School. George was a member of the United States Army from 1966 to August of 1972 and proudly served his country in Vietnam.  George was married to Martha Ruth Russell (McElhaney) from 1968 to 1987. From this union came four children Stephanie, Steven, Katie Jo, and Kenny.

George married Janet Sue Molzahn April 8, 1993 at which time he gained 3 more children. Michelle, Bill, and James.

George had multiple degrees including his pilot's license and a welding degree. He had several occupations throughout his life including welding and manufacturing, aviation, auto mechanic, farm hand, subcontractor for multiple large companies, ran a grocery store and gas station.

George was a proud American and was not afraid to let everyone know. He loved being outdoors where he enjoyed boating, fishing, camping and gardening. He would find ANY reason to be outside. He always looked forward to his family reunion at the lake each year. George loved his family and friends immensely. He always tried to come across as a cantankerous old turd to people he'd meet, but if you took the time to get to know him, you would find he had a heart of gold.

He was preceded in death by his wife Janet Molzahn, parents Charlie and Julia Russell, brothers Andy and Albert Russell, sisters Norma Rebarcheck, and Clara Britton, brothers-in-law Edward McElhaney, Milton Rebarcheck, and Earl Britton, and sisters-in-law Madeline Russell, and Barbara Russell.

He is survived by his daughters Stephanie Wilber and husband William of Chappell, Nebraska, and Katie Carroll and husband Todd of Quinter, Kansas, sons Steven Russell and wife Tanya of Woodlake, California, and Kenny Russell of Park, Kansas, step sons Bill Molzahn and wife Melanie of Agra, Kansas, and James Molzahn and wife Sarah of Agra, Kansas, step daughter Michele Jones and husband Mike of Marion, Iowa, brothers Loyd Russell and wife Wanda of WaKeeney, Kansas, and Ralph Russell and wife Gayle of Smith Center, Kansas, and sisters Alice Wing and husband Bill of Salina, Kansas, and Ruth McElhaney of Quinter, Kansas, 17 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Kathy Whitney, will be held on 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington, Kansas. Following the service, a committal service will be held at the Agra Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Agra American Legion.

George will lie in state on Monday 12 p.m. - 9 p.m., and Tuesday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, Kansas, with a visitation from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
