Phillipsburg resident, Gerald W. Bredemeier, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 93.
He was born March 19, 1926 in Phillips County, the son of William H. and Lillie M. (Miller) Bredemeier. Gerald graduated from Phillipsburg High School. Then on January 10, 1951 he entered into the Army, serving in Korea. He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1953.
He returned to Phillips County, where he joined the family farm operation with his brother, Donald.
On November 4, 1956 in Phillipsburg, Gerald was united in marriage to Phyllis I. Davis. To this union five children were born: Jeri, Mary, Mark, John and Lyle. On June 20, 1989, Phyllis preceded him in death. Then, January 23, 1992, Gerald married Lois (Taylor) Miller in Phillipsburg.
Gerald was proud that he was a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed bird hunting and trap shooting with his boys. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and together, he and Lois, volunteered for the Orphan Grain Train. He spent time gardening, playing cards and always enjoyed a good western and game shows on television.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald Dean; sisters, Shirley Bredemeier and Elizabeth Brobst; wife, Phyllis; son, Lyle and grandson, Quinton Bredemeier.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of Phillipsburg; his sons, Mark and wife, Carrie of Colby, KS and John and wife, Shelly of Hutchinson, KS; daughters, Jeri Bredemeier of Lincoln, NE and Mary Bredemeier of Denver, CO; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor James Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 1:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, where the family will greet friends Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Orphan Grain Train, Borderline Gun Club or the Phillipsburg City Library.
