Obituary

Alma, Nebraska resident, Geraldine R. Schmid, age 91, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Colonial Villa in Alma.

She was born December 2, 1924 in Phillips County, KS the daughter of Paul & Blanche (Burton) Bradley. She attended Simmon School 12 ½ miles north of Agra, KS through the 8th grade.

She was married to Walter F. Schmid on May 15, 1942 at the Pleasant Green Parsonage by Reverend M.D. Blodgett. Upon the outbreak of WWII Walter volunteered his service for his country, Geraldine followed him to California during this time. Complications with her pregnancy brought her back to Kansas, when Wanda was born in 1944. Following his discharge in 1945 the couple made their home on the farm in Phillips County. Then Linda, Charlotte Rae, John & James joined the family.

Geraldine was a Sunday School Teacher for 60 years and served as Sunday School Treasurer. She loved to sew Wanda & Linda Dresses, and her summers were kept busy with canning meats, fruits, vegetables, gardening & chickens. She loved to cook, weekly she made homemade bread, cinnamon rolls & occasionally maple sticks and she specialized in Chocolate Cakes, Apple Pies, Homemade Noodles & Dumplings. She was always willing to volunteer on the farm, helping with chores, working cattle, driving harvest trucks or any deed that was needed. She enjoyed music, especially Bill Gather and the "old hymns". Geraldine was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 364, Naponee, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; infant daughter, Charlotte Rae, daughter, Linda; son, John; grandson, John Paul Schmid; son-in-law, Leonard Fink; brother, Donald Bradley; and sister, Elaine De Lozier.

Survivors include her son, James Schmid & wife, Collette of Thornton, CO; Daughter, Wanda Fink of Kensington; daughter-in-law, Debbie Schmid of Lebo, KS; 9 grandchildren: Charlene, Brian, Randy, Danny, Travis, Kevin, Alexandra, Austin, & Andrew; 12 great grandchildren: Derek, Dakota, Michaela, Brianna, Ashley, Amber, Trevor, Katie, Trevor, Jaxon, Karlie, Seraphin & Lily and 8 great great grandchildren: Anisley, Brody, Keenan, Tate, Mack, Ty, Tru & Tayslee.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2016 in the Heartland Worship Center, Agra, with Pastor Jay Brandon officiating. Burial will follow in the Germantown Cemetery, Smith County, KS.

Mrs. Schmid will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Monday & again Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661.
