Obituary

Gladys Elliott, 97, passed away April 20, 2015 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas. She was born August 15, 1917 in Phillips County, Kansas to Samuel Edwin and Margaret (Nehring) Perrine.

When she was a Junior in high school she began working for J. C. Penney. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1935 and continued to work at the Penney's store until 1941.

On July 15, 1941, she was united in marriage to Robert C. Elliott, Sr. From 1941 – 1964 Gladys was the bookkeeper for Elliott Hardware. Following the sale of the hardware store in 1964, she & her husband operated Elliott's Sales & Service out of their home until his death in 1983. With the help of their son, Richard, Gladys continued operating the business until Richard's death in 2011. For over 47 years she did washings and ironings for people in the community and for the Medical Center and E.M.S., continuing to iron until she was 95.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son, Richard; stepson, Jimmy Elliott; stepdaughter, Norma J. Bell; two sisters, Alice Sleeper and Sara Ann Maynard; a half-sister, Bernice Perrine; and step great-grandson, Micky Bell.

She is survived by her son, Rev. Robert Elliott, Jr.; daughters, Anita Elliott and Linda (Tony) Imm; daughter-in-law, Irene Elliott; one sister, Marguerite Clark; 6 grandchildren: Gina (Delton) Braun, Crystal (Brok) Rule, Bobbi Elliott, Derek (Abby) Elliott, Katie (Bradley) Anderson, Anthony Imm and fiancee', Bailey; 2 step grandsons, Jimmy and Craig Bell; 9 great-grandchildren: Kacee, Kadee, Karlee, Kelcee, Khloee, Darrian, Raleigh, Landon and Averey; and 2 step great-grandchildren: Katie and Cody.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with her son, Rev. Robert Elliott, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Gladys will lie in state from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Phillips County E.M.S. or First Christian Church.
