Gladys Francis Hansen was born June 19, 1933 in Montrose, Colorado to Max & Eva Trujillo. She grew up with three sisters and four brothers, spending time in Colorado, Utah & Wyoming during her younger years.
In Wyoming she met and married the love of her life, James G. Hansen. The couple moved their family to James' hometown, Phillipsburg, Kansas, in 1960. Gladys was a homemaker and mother, raising three children: Betty, Eva Maria, and Richard. During the school years she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Campfire Girl group leader and hosted Halloween and Christmas parties for her children. Her house made lots of kids feel "at home".
Gladys was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and chaired the Poppy Committee for several years. She was a member of the High Plains CB Club, April Sidebanders organization, and the Good Sam Campers Club. She and Jim were two of the primary organizers and first members of Phillips County REACT.
After Jim's retirement the couple traveled in their motorhome across the country. Every few days they called one of the kids just to keep in touch. Many of their trips included at least one of the kids and Gladys always said, "So Jim had someone to play with."
She and James loved celebrating every holiday surrounded by family. After Jim's passing in 1997, Gladys continued to stay involved with family activities, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's events.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; grandson, Stacy Runnion; two brothers and two sisters.
