Glen L. Hultgren, 73, Prairie View, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the Logan Manor Nursing Home, Logan KS after a prolonged illness.
Glen was born in Campbell, NE June 22, 1942 to Charles Jr. and Cleo (Savage) Hultgren. He grew up on the farm near Upland, NE and graduated from Upland High School in 1959. He worked for various farmers in the Upland area while growing up and following graduation was on a custom wheat harvest crew. He also worked in the Denver area for a year driving truck.
On November 26, 1961 he married Linda Beahm in Minden, NE. Together they had four children: Laurie, Richard, Scott and Cynthia. Glen and Linda lived in Upland and Indianola, NE and Phillipsburg, KS before moving to Prairie View, KS in the fall of 1972.
Glen worked as a feedmill operator and bulk feed delivery driver for Cooper Feeds while in Indianola and then managed the grain elevator in Prairie View for a few years before managing the Stuttgart Grain Elevator and feedmill for 33 years in Stuttgart, KS. He won numerous feed sales awards over the years as a 5 Star Dealer for Master Mix Feed. Glen then began his own business Stuttgart Feed & Seed which he operated for 9 years until 2014.
Glen was member of the Prairie View Reformed Church and served as a deacon as well as being the church custodians for many years. He was on the Prairie View City Council for a number of years and also served as Mayor. He also served on the Prairie View Volunteer Fire Dept. and played the part of Santa Claus many years for the annual Christmas candy give away. He was member of the Logan Lions for several years.
Glen loved to hunt and fish and got the opportunity to go on several fishing expeditions to the Great Lakes region and several hunts in other parts of Kansas. Selling feed and farm supplies he won several trips including one to the Bahamas. He shared a love of country music with his wife as well and was able to attend many concerts with her including trip to Branson, MO. Glen enjoyed seeing his five grandchildren and spending time with them.
Glen was a resident of the Logan Manor Nursing Home for the last 16 months and very much appreciated the good care he received. He is survived by his children, Richard Hultgren of Logan, KS. Scott Hultgren, wife Holly of Rapid City, SD. Cynthia Hammitt and husband Kirk of Logan, IA. And his grandchildren, Lonnie Larson of Las Vegas, NV, Haley (Hultgren) Thannum and husband Nate of St. Paul, MN, Jade Larson of Logan, IA and Megan and Grant Hultgren of Rapid City. Siblings Lola Remmenga and husband Jerry of Minden, NE, Alan Hultgren and wife Joyce of Aurora, NE and Linda Sorensen and husband Ron of Milford, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Linda, and his daughter Laurie.
Visitation will be held at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, KS on Saturday, February 27th from 4-9 pm and on Sunday, February 28th from Noon-9 pm where the family will be present from 2-4 pm.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 29th 10:30 am at the Prairie View Reformed Church in with Rev. Aaron Rust officiating. A lunch will be served following the service in the Prairie View Community Center. Interment will be held at 2:30 pm in the Minden City Cemetery, Minden NE.
Memorials may be given to Logan Manor Nursing Home and the American Diabetes Association.
