Lifelong Phillips County resident, Glenn Gerald Kendall, son of Clarence & Winifred (Bretton) Kendall, was born August 22, 1943 in Phillipsburg, KS and passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, NE at the age of 73.
On October 15, 1964, Glenn was inducted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from military service on October 14, 1966.
He was united in marriage to Nelda Burris on May 12, 1971 in Guymon, OK. To this union 4 sons were born: Glenn, Jr., Brian, James & David. They later divorced. He then married Vicki L. Colby McClurg on July 17, 1999 in Phillipsburg.
Glenn worked as an over-the-road truck driver for most of his life. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, traveling with Vicki, and watching NASCAR races on TV. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and new grandbabies.
Glenn loved life and had a smile that would brighten a room. He was a kind, soft-spoken man with a gentle nature. He set standards for his children that included hard work, respectfulness and honesty, and his presence here will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Cleta & Clara Kendall, Bessie Schumacher & Connie Iverson; a brother-in-law, Lyle Iverson; and a son, Glenn, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki, of the home in Phillipsburg; 3 sons: James of Great Falls, Montana, Brian & wife, Holly of Canton, KS & David & wife, Kyley of Denver, CO; a step-son, Dustin McClurg & wife Crystal of Logan, KS; 2 step-daughters, Bonita Slipke & husband, Raymond of New Almelo, KS and Pamela Karnas & husband, Rob of Woodbridge, Virginia; his brother, Wilbur Kendall & wife, Carma of Phillipsburg; & 2 sisters, Donna Smith & husband, Roy Lee of Tyler, Texas and Alice Searight & husband, George of Phillipsburg, KS; 2 grandchildren; & 9 step-grandchildren.
Cremation was chosen. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Inurnment with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
Friends may sign the book from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
