Phillipsburg, KS resident, Gloria Marie Goodale, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Logan Manor Nursing Home in Logan, KS at the age of 91.
She was born July 30, 1924 at Fort Benton, Montana, the daughter of Robert Scott and Mary Jane (Morger) Good. She graduated from the Dillon, MT High School in 1942.
After graduation she moved to Seattle, WA, and worked as a welder at an aircraft assembly plant during World War II.
She met and married Robert Norman Erickson on June 5, 1945 in Portland, OR. To this union four children were born: Sharon, Linda, Michael and Robert. The family moved to Phillipsburg, KS in 1951.
Following a divorce from Robert, she met and married Leo Post Goodale on April 12, 1974 in Phillipsburg.
Gloria worked at the Phillips County Courthouse and at Goods' Music & Antiques with her parents before taking a job at KN Energy as a Gas Measurement Clerk. She retired from the gas company in 1987.
Gloria was active in organizations in Phillipsburg, including the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #1360, the American Legion Auxiliary Post #252, Order of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge. She was also a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Phillipsburg.
Her love of people and care-giving nature led to many hours of volunteer work at the Golden Years Center and Westview Homes. She volunteered for her church as well, delivering bulletins after church services. In her spare time, she loved to read.
Gloria had a rare blood type, and was a dedicated blood donor. Prior to the Red Cross blood drives, she gave blood directly to patients at the hospital. She gave so much blood over the years that she earned a Gold Card from the Red Cross. She made the decision years ago to bequeath her body to the University of Kansas Medical Center because she wanted to be able to support medical learning and research.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Marjorie (Spalding) Good; her step-father, "Shorty" Clingdanel, Portland, OR; her husband, Leo, in 2005; two sons, Michael in 1953 and Robert in 1971; a brother, Ernest Good, in 2013; a son-in-law, Dale Broyles, in 1997; and her adopted daughter, Beatrice Bratton, in 2013.
