Obituary

Gordon Eugene Babcock, son of Donald and Gloria Babcock, was born August 11, 1953 in Phillipsburg, Kansas and passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 in the Phillips County Hospital, Phillipsburg, at the age of 58.

Gordon lived his entire life in Phillipsburg, attending school here and graduating with the High School Class of 1971. He was an honor student and excelled in FFA, football and track. Gordon received the State Farmer Degree, was named all-league and all-state fullback in football, tied the school record in the discus, and was a state competitor in track throwing the javelin. After high school, Gordon studied at Kansas State University for two years before coming back home to Phillipsburg to begin his lifelong farming operation.

On May 21, 1977, he was united in marriage to Cindy Lynn Basford. To this union, three children were born: Barrett Eugene, Audra Lynn and Bronson Phillip. Gordon and Cindy later divorced.

Gordon enjoyed playing the accordion and loved spending time with his family and many friends. He had also been baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

His former wife, Cindy Babcock, and his youngest son, Bronson Phillip, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, Barrett, of Russell, KS; his daughter, Audra Betts, and grandson, Chandler Betts, of Omaha, NE; his parents, Don & Gloria Babcock of Phillipsburg; his sister, Donita Pemberton & husband, Jim, of Russell; his brother, Gregory Babcock & wife, Kim, of Phillipsburg; three nephews: Jared and Jordan Pemberton of Russell; and Grant Babcock & wife, Megan, of San Diego, CA; two nieces: Megan Irvine & husband, Brian, of Lenexa, KS and Melissa DeWitt & husband, Randy, of Manhattan, KS; one great-nephew, Elijah Irvine; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Cremation was planned. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 22, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Randy Elder officiating.

Friends may sign his memory book on Friday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
