Gordon James Reneberg was born March 1st, l933 to Berniece James and Earl Reneberg on the farm l mile north of Kensington. He had a older brother, Norman LeRoy who preceded him in death and is survived by a younger sister, Erleen Rae Norris.

He was not a healthy baby, weighing only 9 lbs at six months and had been placed in Mary Lanning Hospital of Hastings for two weeks to find a diet that would enable him to eat and gain weight. His schooling was country school until fourth grade when he joined his friends at Kensington Grade School. At the age of l7, he graduated from high school in 1950. He enlisted in the Air Force in Feb. 1952. He trained and flew as a Flight Engineer on B-29 bombers and after six months in Japan, served as crew chief for the B-47 Superjets in England and Lincoln, Nebraska.

Gordon was baptized at the Christian Church of Kensington on April 22, 1943 and received into Redeemer Lutheran of Lincoln, Nebraska on April 27, 1955 .

In 1954, he was joined in holy matrimony with Juanita Wangerin. Their first child was born in l957, Perry Giles. whom the doctors called the "tornado kid" since he and his parents survived the west Smith County tornado that destroyed the Earl Reneberg farmstead and many others while they took shelter in a basement of a wash house. In 1960, a precious baby girl, Ann Denise, joined the family in the house on the farm that Gordon built after the tornado. Ronald D. arrived in 1962 with James Wade completing the family circle in 1968. Gordon took his young family to the woods, searching for morel mushrooms and to see the deer, to the plains to find Indian artifacts, to the hills on trail bikes and dirt bikes, to the mountains for their majestic beauty, and to the lakes, ponds, and rivers, teaching them to fish and to love Gods beautiful nature. He farmed and raised cattle on the home place for 43 years until they moved to Kensington and his son, Jamie, returned to the farm.

He enjoyed flying his own homebuilt "Quickie", built with his friend, Pastor Jerry Peck. Also, the Cessna 1-20 he owned with Roy Wangerin and a 4 place Cessna 1-72 they owned with friends, Kenneth Pierce and Don Wiens.

He loved helping the youth of the community with archery and gun safety and was awarded a Master Hunter Safety Teacher certificate and taught that class for 20 years.
Gordon served his church as a high school class teacher and on the board of stewardship for ice cream socials, soup suppers, hog roasts and many meetings. He was a 50+ year member of the American Legion Post 166, helping in the bar when the present building was built, a charter member of the board of HUD, getting the 12 apartments built as an addition to our town, an avid Sunday School and First St. John Lutheran church attendee, a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and friend, whose life we celebrate.
