Grada (Geregje) Jansonius, daughter of Christian and Hannah (Hogan) Van Kooten, was born
January 21, 1915 at Long Island, Kansas. She was the second oldest of six children. She died Sunday,
October 6, 2013 at the Logan Manor, Logan, Kansas at the age of 98 years and 8 months.
Grada grew up on the family farm southeast of Long Island and attended a one-room school at
Jackson Grade School which was located one mile south of their home. She was a member of the Luctor
Christian Reformed Church all her life and also belonged to the Ladies Aid Golden Hour Circle. As a
young girl she worked as a maid in the following cities: Midland Park, New Jersey; Denver, Colorado;
end Bellflower, California.
Grada married William (Bill) Jansonius April 2, 1940 at her parents' home southeast of Long
Island, Kansas. To this union, three children were born: Evalee Joyce, Willard Gale, and Cleo James.
They lived south of Prairie View on a farm most of their married life, moving to Prairie View in 1997.
She enjoyed living on the farm being a homemaker, cooking and raising a family. After an illness, she
moved into the Logan Manor May 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, brothers Bastian, Jerome, and
Alfred Van Kooten; sisters Juel Van Kooten and Opal Day.
Mourning her departure are: daughter Evalee Hall and husband Dick of Pine, Arizona; sons
Willard Jansonius of Prairie View, Kansas and Cleo Jansonius of Logan, Kansas; grandson Clint Schulze
and wife Monica of Buckeye, Arizona; great-grandchildren: Jordan, Sierra and Shaylynn Schulze of
Buckeye, Arizona; four sisters-in-law: Hazel Jansonius of Prairie View, Kansas; Anne Jansonius of Logan,
Kansas; Henrietta Van Kooten of Long Island, Kansas; and Genevieve Van Kooten of Sanborn, Iowa;
along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Grada's memory shall long be cherished by all of her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2013 in the Luctor Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Troy Buss officiating. Burial will follow in the Luctor Cemetery, Phillips County, Kansas.
Grada will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Luctor Christian Reformed Church or the Logan Manor.
