Gregory J. Murnahan, 56, of Norton, passed away the evening of Saturday, Sept. 3 at his home in Norton.
Greg was born on Nov. 9, 1959, in Salina, the son of Alfred W. and Helen (Mathews) Murnahan. He graduated from Abilene High School and continued to work for Dean Sims Construction, McKee Pools, and with his father in Murnahan Decorating. After working in the Nebraska oil fields, for Great Plains in Abilene, and Adams Construction in Arapaho NE, Greg restarted Murnahan Decorating Services, working in Halstead before moving the business to Norton in 2001 with his partner, Dr. Janis Monier. Murnahan Decorating Services worked in Northwest Kansas & Southwest Nebraska & were responsible for restoring & remodeling four downtown buildings in Norton.
Greg was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton, and enjoyed working on projects for the Church and singing in the choir. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Council 0303 and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Council 1510. He volunteered with the Norton Meals on Wheels program, was a member of Eagles Aerie #3288, and was the past Cub Scout Committee Chairman for Pack 67.
He is survived by Dr. Janis Monier of Norton, his daughters, Amber Urquides-Swann and husband, Matt, of Cheyenne; Veronica Monier, of Norton; sons, Zachariah Murnahan, of Albin, WY; Josh Murnahan and wife, Danielle, of Cheyenne; John Monier and wife, Molly, of Wichita; and Shawn Aguiniga and wife, Nicole, of Lee's Summit; brothers, Robert Murnahan and wife, Sondra, of Abilene KS; Paul Murnahan and wife, Colleen, of Arlington TX; Allon Murnahan and wife, Lisa, of Wilmington NC; and Mark Murnahan and wife, Peggy, of Topeka; sister-in-law, Sharon Murnahan, of Salina; grandchildren, Robert, Brody Gregory, Joshua Jr., Aubrie, Adalyn, Breck, Kayden, and Chloe; and 13 nieces and nephews.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald Murnahan, and baby boy Murnahan; and niece, Tanya Renee Murnahan.
A Rosary will be said on Thursday, Sept. 8, 7:00 p.m., and the Mass of Christian Burial funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 9, 10:30 a.m. Both will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton with Father Vincent Thu Laing officiating. A lunch will be provided after the funeral services in the Parish Hall.
Memorial donations may be made in Greg's name to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton for building projects or the Norton Meals on Wheels program.
