IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hank
Schurz
December 27, 1957 – September 30, 2019
Walter Henry "Hank" Schurz, Jr. came into this world on December 27, 1957 in Logan, Kansas, one of eleven children born to Walter & Georgine (Bittel) Schurz.
He grew up on a farm and attended school in Logan. On June 25, 1988 he married Linda Smith in Hays, Kansas. This union was blessed with two daughters, Sara and Beth. In June, 2019 Hank & Linda celebrated their 31 st wedding anniversary.
Hank had fond memories of the summers he spent traveling from Texas to Montana with the Sammons Harvesting crew. After that he worked in the oil fields on a pulling unit and also spent some time working on the family's farm before his employment with Tamko Roofing Products in Phillipsburg, where he worked for 10 years. In 1995 Hank took a job with the Kansas Department of Transportation as an Equipment Operator on the Area Crew, working for 21 years until he began a hard fought, four-year battle with cancer. On September 30, 2019 this long struggle ended, and he passed away peacefully at his home.
Hank was an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for hunting and fishing. More than that, he loved sharing his knowledge and expertise with his many nieces and nephews and eventually with his daughters, Sara and Beth. Nothing made him happier than being with his girls on a hunting or fishing adventure.
Hank's outgoing personality and big heart allowed him to make friends easily with anyone he met and his love and loyalty to family was immeasurable. Even though his life here on earth was cut short, he blessed all who knew him with a lifetime of memories.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter & Georgine Schurz; an infant sister, Marie, and sisters, Myra Schurz and Cheryl Finnesy; along with brothers, Dave and Fred Schurz.
Survivors include his wife, Linda, of rural Phillipsburg; daughters, Beth Schurz and fiance', Matthew Scheuermann of Hesston, KS and Sara Olson (Ethan) of Phillipsburg; his brothers, Shannon Schurz (Joan) of Speed, KS; Bob Schurz (Sheila) of Bonner Springs, KS; and Rick Schurz (Rhonda) of Olathe, KS; his sisters, Dena Vehige (Ken) of Hays, KS and Connie Breese (D.D.) of Quinter, KS; brother-in-law, Rick Finnesy of Maricopa, AZ; sister-in-law, Linda Schurz of Salina, KS; as well as many nieces and nephews.
