Obituary

Harold Massie McCue was born in a sod house in Rooks County, Kansas on August 26, 1925 to David Massie McCue and Rosa Mae LeSage. He passed away on April 18, 2013 at Roberts Place, his residence in Logan, Kansas.

Harold attended the Brown School south of Logan, graduating from the 8th grade. After his schooling he worked on the farm to help his parents with the responsibilities of raising four other siblings.

He joined the U. S. Navy in 1944 and was deployed to the Philippines and China in the Seabees Division. He received an Honorary Discharge in 1946 and returned to Kansas.

On January 1, 1948, Harold married Jeannine Bartlett. Their family included six children: Mary Lou, Janet, Duane, Susan, Steven and Karen.

Harold farmed and ranched on the McCalpin Place west of the Brown Schoolhouse until 1962, when he moved his family into Logan. The last load of that move included their favorite cat, Strawberry, who rode underneath the front seat of the old red & white car they owned at the time.

Harold first took a job with Lappin Equipment in Logan as a mechanic, and then he drove the farm fuel delivery truck for the Logan Coop for many years, and finally worked for the Logan Lumber Company.

Later in life Harold was married to Bonnie Wagner on April 23, 1983. He became an important part of Bonnie's children's lives throughout the years: Lynn, Keith, Cheryl, Rick, Tracey, and their families, children and grandchildren.

Harold was an active member and past President of the Logan Lion's Club and was also a member of the Ralph DeFors American Legion Post No. 281 in Logan. He and Bonnie enjoyed traveling together, spending several winters in Arizona and taking two trips to Hawaii, sharing time with family and friends. He was known for his sense of humor, sharing jokes, visiting with town folk and handing out candy & treats during his working years up to his last day. Even as Harold's health failed, he enjoyed using his scooter to travel around town.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mildred Stahley and Annie McCue; two daughters, Mary Lou and Susan, and son, Steven; son-in-law, Charlie Nichol & wife, Jeannine in 2000; and wife, Bonnie, in 2002.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet Nichol of Logan; son, Duane McCue & wife, Yvonne, also of Logan; and daughter, Karen Budd & husband, Robert, of Honolulu, Hawaii; six grandchildren: Ryan & wife, Jennifer of Russell; Amy, of Kirwin; Shayla & Fred Reza of Leesburg, VA; Ross & Courtney of Phillipsburg; Jake of Hays, KS; and Matthew of Honolulu, HI; six great-grandchildren: Renee and Dominic Nichol; Braxton, Mallory and Bryn Reza; and Avreigh McCue; also eleven step grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Della Johnston & husband, Gerald, of Topeka, KS and Blanche Allen of Oceanside, CA; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Stahley of Evanston, WY.

Funeral services will be held Tues, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. in the Logan Christian Church with pastor Troy Buss officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, with military honors by the U.S. Navy.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Sunday & from 9:00 to 9:00 Monday at the Logan Funeral Home.
