Harold O. Parker, son of Henry Joy & Mary Oda (Hoy) Parker, was born May 11, 1920 on the family farm near Long Island in Phillips County, KS. He passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the Sherman County Good Samaritan Society, Goodland, KS at the age of 96.
On July 19, 1942, Harold was united in marriage to Luella W. Brees in Norton, Kansas. The couple raised two sons together, Robert and Lauren.
Harold spent most of his life farming and raising Black Angus cattle. He loved all animals but was particularly fond of dogs and horses.
Many hours were also spent helping his wife, Luella, run a small grocery store in Long Island. Harold was particularly good at running the meat counter where he would make up special orders for customers. At Christmas time Luella's little store sold special chocolate candy in bulk quantities. Harold could always recommend the best candy because he sampled it all daily!
The coffee pot was always on at the store and many hours were spent visiting with friends and neighbors. Harold had many stories of growing up during the great depression and days of the Dust Bowl, or the "dirty 30's" as he called it.
Spending time with his family was one of his greatest joys, especially his four grandchildren and great-grandson. They all enjoyed his great sense of humor and listening to his many stories of growing up and living & working on the farm.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Luella, on December 7, 2009; an infant son, Leland; son, Robert on September 24, 2008; daughter-in-law, Rosanna Parker; and a brother, Wilbur Parker.
Survivors include his son, Lauren Parker & wife, Geralyn of Goodland, KS; 4 grandchildren, Brad Parker of Goodland, Tony Parker & wife, Amy of Manhattan, KS, Fr. Nicholas Parker of Chicago, IL, and Jillian Korte & husband, Andrew of Sharon Springs, KS; and 1 great-grandson, Cole Parker.
Cremation was planned. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016 in the Long Island United Methodist Church, Long Island, with Pastor Ted Stapleton & Fr. Nicholas Parker officiating.
Friends may sign the book from noon – 9 p.m. Friday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg.
