Pflieger

Logan resident, Hazel M. Pflieger, passed away on Monday, Sept. 26, 2022 at the Brookdale Senior Living Facility in Hays, KS at the age of 87.
She was born May 23, 1935 nine miles south of Logan, Kansas the daughter of Earl and Alpha (Wallgren) McCue. Hazel's family later moved to Deerfield, KS, living there until her mother passed away when Hazel was eight. Her family moved back to the Logan area, living in the country until she graduated from high school.
Hazel attended first and second grade in a one-room school south of Deerfield. Grades 3-6 were spent in a one-room school north of Logan called Valley Grove. Grades 7-12 th were spent in Logan, graduating with the class of 1953. She then attended Fort Hays State for two years earning her 60-hour Provisional Teaching Degree. She began teaching and continued to earn the necessary credits through Fort Hays State and graduated from Fort Hays State in 1967. After teaching in Speed and Logan for 39 ½ years, she retired in May 1998.
Hazel was united in marriage to Maynard Pflieger on July 29, 1977, in Logan. They had one daughter, Faye.
She enjoyed collecting owls and miniature tea sets. She liked to bowl, crochet, and embroidery, play cards, and go shopping. Hazel was a member of the local teacher's organization, NEA, and KSTA.
She also loved spending time with her only grandson, Colton. They loved to play with Play-doh, and she taught him how to read.
She was preceded in death by her husband Maynard on November 24, 2008; brothers Edgar and Ronnie McCue; and sister Harriet Wheelbarger.
Survivors include her daughter Faye Miller of Hays, KS; grandson Colton Miller of Hays; sister Betty Cadoret of Stockton; and a sister-in-law Ruby Pflieger of Norton along with several nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2022 in the Logan Christian Church, Logan, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.
Mrs. Pflieger will lie in state from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Noon until 9 p.m. Thursday at the Logan Funeral Home, 102 E. Church St., Logan, KS 67646.
