Helen Alvina Rogers was born April 11, 1928, in Haxton, Colorado the youngest child of Harold & Alvina James. She passed away December 14, 2016 at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas at the age of 88. She attended school in Orleans Ne and graduated with the class of 1946. On July 17, 1946 she was married to Leonard (Jiggs) H. Rogers. They made their home on the farm in Long Island, Kansas. To this union, 3 children were born, Jill, Jack & Jeanne. She was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on the farm.
She enjoyed sewing, reading & cooking and spending time with her family. She raised & sold Newfoundland, Great Pyrenees & German Shepherd Dogs. She had a great love for all animals but especially loved her collie dog Lassie.
Great times are remembered sitting around the kitchen table having pie and coffee with family, friends and neighbors that stopped in.
She was baptized on November 07, 1982 by Reverand Darrel Boston at the Christian Church in Norton, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold & Alvina James, two sisters, Eldrid & Jean, her husband, Leonard & 1 great grandson, Dusty Yocum. Survivors include her 3 children, Jill (Dane) Christensen-Phillipsburg, Ks, Jack (Joyce) Rogers –Long Island, Kansas & Jeanne (Jim) Ray- Norton, Kansas. 9 grandchildren- Shawn (Aneta) Christensen-Agra, KS, Nicholas (Tana) Christensen-Orleans, NE, Nathan (Jolene) Christensen-Alma, NE, Christopher (Neva) Rogers-Long Island, KS, Shelbi (John) Solida-Hays, KS, Sommer (Jon) Yocum-Prairie View, KS, Callie (Matt) Crist-Scott City, KS, Jason (Richelle) Ray-Silver Lake, KS, Jaime (Mike) Kaus-Manhattan, KS & 21 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sat., Dec. 17, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Almena Congregational Church, Almena, KS, with Pastor Kirk Kasson officiating. Burial will follow in the Long Island Cemetery, Long Island.
Friends can sign the book Friday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg. The casket will remain closed.
