Hilda Miller, daughter of Henry & Kathrine (Krafft) Merklein, was born May 3, 1916 in Phillips County, Kansas and passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 93.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Stuttgart, Kansas, where she remained a faithful member until her death.
Hilda attended grade school at Brush Creek School in Phillips County.
On June 2, 1937 she was united in marriage to Ellsworth J. "Mike" Miller in Stuttgart, Kansas. To this union three children were born: Shirley, Eldon "Butch", and Lannie.
Hilda was a homemaker and mother who loved to quilt and cook, and was known for her raisin cream pies and cinnamon rolls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike, of 61 years; great-grandchildren, Johnny & Lauren Shaw; six brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include her sons, Eldon "Butch" Miller & wife, Bev, of Stuttgart and Lannie Miller & wife, Judy, of Lake View, Iowa; daughter, Shirley Vanderplas & husband, Bill, of Phillipsburg; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Esther Weinman of Phillipsburg and Erna Laizure of Alma, Nebraska.
Funeral services were held Sat., Feb. 6, at 2:00 p.m. in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, KS, with Pastor Shelly Klingensmith officiating. Burial followed in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Stuttgart.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hospice Services, or the Phillips County Retirement Center.
