Obituary

Ida M. Forssberg died on Saturday, February 5, 2011 in the Logan Manor, Logan, KS at the age of 100 years. Ida Margaret (Zillinger) Forssberg, eldest child of Adam George and Anna Elizabeth (Fritsch) Zillinger, was born on October 9, 1910 at her parent's home four miles north of Speed, Kansas. The family soon moved to a farm northeast of Logan where Ida grew up and attended the rural Pleasant Ridge School. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at the nearby Wolfe Creek St. Peters Lutheran Church.

On October 17, 1934 she was united in marriage to Harold Glenn Forssberg. Together they
farmed and raised their family northeast of Logan. Ida enjoyed raising chickens, gardening
and sewing and taught herself to crochet. She was a long time member of the Lutheran
Ladies Aide and spent much time quilting with groups, and after retirement, individually in
her home. All her grandchildren received crocheted baby sets when they were born, Afghans for graduations, and quilts for wedding presents. Great grandchildren were given crocheted blankets. She attended all family graduations, weddings and other special occasions as long as she could travel. She especially delighted in welcoming new babies to the family.

Ida was a faithful member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and later transferred her membership to Zion Lutheran in Phillipsburg, KS. She taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school for many years and took part in various church activities. Ida was always there to help neighbors and friends when they were having difficult times.

In 1975, Harold and Ida retired and moved to Phillipsburg, where they celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary in 1984, and Ida's 90th birthday in 2000 with family reunions. She
continued to live in her home until September 2009 when failing health required her move to
Logan Manor. Ida kept busy during retirement years entertaining and helping family and
friends, playing cards, doing needle work and tending her garden and flower beds. She
continued to keep in touch with many by sending cards and letters, read her Bible and church
periodicals and crocheted as long as her sight allowed. When she could no longer see colors,
her yam was labeled by color in bold print so she could choose the right colors for her
crocheted projects.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 1995; their eldest son, Warren Roderick
in 1940; daughter Iva Mae in 1996; son-in-law Carl Maguire; two brothers Edward and
Herman and two sisters, Marie and Hilda.

She is survived by one daughter Vesta Rae and husband Ronald Iman, Albuquerque, NM;
three sons Norman and Verneene, Pratt, Kansas; Roy and Cheri, Hutchinson, Kansas; and
Lynn and Debra, Bayfield, Colorado. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 27 great
grandchildren, one sister, Clara Cox of California and one brother Arnold Zillinger and wife
Dorothy of Logan, KS, several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Lorna Paulus officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

She will lie in state from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice Services, Inc.
