Lebanon resident, Ila M. (Godfrey) George, passed away Thurs., Dec. 8, 2011 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, NE at the age of 74.
She was born October 6, 1937 in Logan, KS to William A. & Emma (Cadoret) Schilowsky. She graduated from the Almena Rural High School with the class of 1954.
Ila was united in marriage to Robert Charles Godfrey on October 6, 1955 in Phillipsburg, Kansas. To this union four children were born; Debra Marie, William J., Albert Leroy, and Bobby Lynn. Robert preceded her in death on February 19, 1979. Ila then met and married Eldon Wayne George on June 26, 1993 in Almena, Kansas. After their marriage, she & Eldon made their home in Lebanon on Eldon's farm until her death.
Ila spent most of her adult life as a "Farm Wife." She did, however, enjoy getting away from it all by traveling, going to dances and listening to music. She especially enjoyed visiting Branson, Missouri with Eldon. She also enjoyed bowling with the league in Red Cloud, Nebraska, her membership with the BPW of Lebanon, and the Lebanon United Methodist Church, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Eldon, of the home in Lebanon; sons, William of Long Island, Kansas, Albert "Leroy" & wife, Redeara of Anthony, Kansas and Bobby & wife, Nat of Niederwald, Texas; a brother Darrel Schilowsky & wife, Vivian of Bountiful, Utah; sister, Wilma Romjue & husband, Don of Oakdale, CA; and four grandchildren, John & Stephanie Godfrey and Ila & Tia Godfrey; step-son, John George & wife, Sheritta of Lebanon, Kansas; 2 step-daughters, Wanda Cloet & husband, Neil of Sutton, Nebraska and Sharon Boyd & husband Roger of Oakley, Kansas; 7 step-grandchildren, Matt, Aaron & Alison Cloet, Courtney & Brett George, Halley & Coulter Boyd.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leo Leroy Schilowsky; a sister, Donna McClelland; and an infant daughter, Debra Marie.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Bill Linde officiating. Burial will follow in the Long Island Cemetery, Long Island, KS.
Visitation will be Sat. from 5 – 9 p.m. and Sun. from noon – 9 p.m. at the funeral home in Phillipsburg, with the family receiving friends Sun. evening from 7 – 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Center for Basic Cancer Research.
