Irma Lee Gebhard passed away November 15, 2016 at the Logan Manor in Logan, Kansas at the age of 88 years.
She was born April 9, 1928 to Clifford & Mina (Adler) Allen in Maramec, Oklahoma. Irma Lee graduated with the Class of 1946 from the Bowring, Oklahoma High School.
On July 27, 1947 she was united in marriage to Kenneth H. Burdge in Almena, Kansas. To this union two children were born: Linda Sue and Robert Allen. They moved to Wathena, Kansas in 1950.
Irma Lee accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age. She taught Junior High Sunday school at Wathena Baptist Church for several years. She worked in the Nelly Don dress factory in St. Joseph, Missouri for 15 years.
The family moved back to Long Island, Kansas in 1965, where she drove a school bus for 20 years for the Long Island & Almena school systems. Irma Lee became a member of the Long Island United Methodist Church where she taught adult Sunday school classes and served on several church boards. She also belonged to several other clubs and organizations.
On May 4, 1980 she was united in marriage to Eldon L. Gebhard in Ashland, Kansas. She drove a semi-truck along with Eldon for six years which they enjoyed very much. They started traveling together, seeing much of the United States plus tours to Canada, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, and six countries in Europe. They also took several cruises in the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal and Alaska.
Irma Lee loved God, her family and her friends. She loved traveling, doing jigsaw puzzles, sewing, wood crafting, flower gardening, quilting and being a homemaker, wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother; an infant sister; and her husbands, Kenneth and Eldon.
Survivors include her son, Robert Burdge & wife, Nancy, of Pagosa Springs, CO; her daughter, Linda Wilson of Omaha, NE; stepdaughters, Teresa Albert of Smith Center, KS and Coleen Malek of Scott City, KS; two brothers, Mike Allen & wife, Joyce, of Monett, MO and David Allen of Kansas City, MO; two grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren.
Following Irma Lee's wishes, her body was donated to the Kansas University School of Medicine. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 in the Long Island United Methodist Church with Pastor Ted Stapleton officiating.
Friends may sign the register book Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, KS.
