Obituary

Phillipsburg resident, Jack Hubbard, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 at the age of 80.

He was born May 4, 1931 in Almena, Kansas, the son of Miner & Loese (Brown) Hubbard. He graduated from Smith Center High School with the class of 1949. Following graduation he went to work for the local power company and then enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 28, 1951. After serving four years in the military, Jack was honorably discharged in July, 1955. He then returned to work for the power company and later retired after 46 years of loyal service.

Jack was united in marriage to Mary Ann Stutterheim on July 6, 1957 in the Prairie View Reformed Church in Prairie View. To this union four children were born; Jay, Patti, Mike & Kurtis.

In his spare time, he enjoyed pheasant and quail hunting in the company of his black labs, Das and Lady. He trained horses for many years and won numerous trophies and ribbons attending horse shows. Jack & Mary spent many summers together in Ruidoso, New Mexico. They also hosted many get-togethers in their garage at home for family and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ann on March 30, 2010; a son, Jay on April 27, 1992; brothers, Derroll and Dick Hubbard; and sisters, Donna Hill, Mig Carlson, and Marge Beury.

Survivors include his sons, Mike of Logan & Kurtis of Phillipsburg; his daughter, Patricia Potts & husband, Jason of Cameron, MO; one brother, R.D. & his wife Joan Dale of Palm Desert, CA; one sister, Ellie Sparks & her husband, John of Smith Center & 4 grandchildren, Jakob, Nicholas, Dallas & Dillon Hubbard of Woodbury, TN.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, with military honors by the U.S. Air Force.

Visitation will be from 12:00 to 9:00 Wed. & 9:00 to 9:00 Thurs at the funeral home.
