Obituary

Jerry Allen Link of Phillipsburg, KS, passed away peacefully at his home on March 13, 2024 at the age of 92.  He was born on January 30, 1932, in Grant City, MO.

Jerry was a friendly and outgoing individual who never met a stranger. He cherished spending time with his friends, engaging in conversations at various places like sporting events, golf courses, coffee shops, and local restaurants. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Power on April 20, 1951, and to this union 3 children were born.

He is survived by his sister, Roma Andrews of Greeley CO, his children Valerie Hanson of Phillipsburg, Kelly and wife Mary Ellen of Phillipsburg, and Linda and husband Dave Porter of Colby KS.   Grandchildren Christopher (Tranda) Morrissey of Winfield, KS, Shaun (Brett) Morrissey of Fayetteville, AR, Anthony (Danielle) Shellito of Wahoo, NE and Dustin (Kelsey) Shellito of Oakley KS,  22 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, their children, and his best friend since 2nd grade, George Searight.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, Marge, parents Mabel and Earl Link, sister and brother-in-law Glendeen and Hilmer Wiig, brother-in-law Dennis Andrews, and friend Molly Colbert.

Jerry attended Phillipsburg High School and briefly pursued higher education at KU on a football scholarship. He returned home and began working at the Coop Refinery.  He was drafted and served in the United States Air Force for four years, during his service; he played basketball all over Europe.  Upon returning home, Jerry returned to his career at the Co-op Refinery, starting out in the Cat unit and later moving into the office, where he was employed until the refinery closed.   Jerry then became self-employed as a bookkeeper for many Phillipsburg businesses and later became a tax preparer. His hobbies included anything athletic.  He enjoyed coaching baseball and attending basketball and football games with his friends.

Cremation was planned.   A memorial services will be held Friday, March 29, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. The services will be livestreamed on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Friends may sign the book at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2024. The family will then receive friends for visitation from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. that evening at The Sand Trap Bar and Grill in Phillipsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Services or the Phillipsburg Golf Club.

Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
