Beim
October 22, 1931 – March 3, 2020
Phillipsburg resident, John A. Beim, was born in a Phillips County farmhouse to Joe and Florence (Anderson) Beim on October 22, 1931. He departed this life Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at the Phillips County Hospital, Phillipsburg, at the age of 88.
He attended Truesdale Country School through seventh grade then transferred to Phillipsburg to complete eighth grade through high school. He graduated in 1949 with a class of 60 students. John continued his education for one year at Kansas State University majoring in Agriculture Engineering.
In October of 1953, he was drafted into the Army where he served until October 1955. He returned to Phillips County and met and married Shirley Klotz on July 22, 1956 in Phillipsburg. Together the couple had four children: Timothy, Michael, Perry and Paula.
John spent most of his life farming. He was very proud when he earned his Pilot's License. John enjoyed his time visiting with family and friends and always had a joke or a story to share.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2012 and by a sister, Geneva Burton.
Survivors include his daughter Paula Lyon and husband Cody of Phillipsburg; 3 sons, Timothy of Phillipsburg, Michael and wife Karen of Keokuk, IA and Perry and wife Pamela of Wichita, KS; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, with Pastor Lee Bennight officiating. Burial will follow in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Phillips County, KS.
Mr. Beim will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2 nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
