John William Jansonius, son of William & Vivian (VanDerWege) Jansonius, was born October 23, 1937 on a farm in Phillips County, Kansas. He passed away on February 15, 2017 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 79.
John graduated from Prairie View High School in Prairie View, KS and then from Central College in Pella, Iowa.
After two years' service in the United States Army, John was honorably discharged and returned to Kansas to work on the family farm.
He married Sallie Gaines on June 19, 1991 in Phillipsburg, Kansas.
John enjoyed farming and raising Hereford cattle and was a member of the Kansas Livestock Association for many years.
He was an active member of the Prairie View Reformed Church, serving on the church council until declining health wouldn't allow him to continue.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William & Vivian, and a grandson, Maleki Jansonius.
Survivors include his wife, Sallie, of Phillipsburg, KS; sons, Glenn Jansonius, of Phillipsburg and Kurtis Wolfe of Hays, KS; daughters, Carol McGinnis of San Diego, CA and Kayla Kreller of Phillipsburg; a brother, Van Jansonius of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Anita DeBoer of Phillipsburg and Georgia Brown of Topeka, KS; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Aaron Rust officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Services or the Prairie View Reformed Church.
