IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Mark
Jarvis
May 18, 1960 – June 17, 2022
John Mark Jarvis was born May 18, 1960 in Baldwin, Alabama. He passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE at the age of 62.
John lived with Clifford and Melissa Reece for 3 years until 1968, when he along with his brother Pete were adopted by Wendell and Beverly Jarvis as their sons and became brothers with Stuart and Shane.
As a kid, John enjoyed playing football with the Robinson kids and camping and fishing with Stuart and Jerol and anyone else that would show up! The camping was a lot rougher back in those days then it is with the nice campers everyone has now. And even back then, John's football suit was the Cleveland Browns. John was baptized at the age of 13 by the Reverend Don Macy at the First Christian Church in Phillipsburg, Kansas. He was a 10 year member of the Deer Creek 4-H Club. At the fair, he showed pigs and cattle. He was involved with the dog project and went on many geology field trips. He was still a supporter of 4-H as an adult. John was active in wrestling, band and FFA at Phillipsburg High School. He graduated with the Class of 1979.
After graduation, John joined the Army National Guard. He was proud to serve his country and attended the Guard Camp from 1980-1987.
Being a Jack-of-All-Trades, John shared his talent where ever he worked including Boogaarts Grocery Store, Tamko Roofing, Steve Cox Hog Farm, Harding Construction, Cole True Value, Sawyer's ACE Hardware, Prairie Ag Horizons Ethanol Plant, Phillipsburg High School and he mowed yards for several people and took pride in caring for several country cemeteries. At the time of his death, John was the Head Custodian at Phillipsburg Elementary School where he greeted the kids with a hug and a smile each morning. All of his "kids" from the Elementary School were always in his thoughts and prayers.
At the top of the list of leisure time activities for John was hunting and fishing. These hobbies took him to several states where he made many friends along the way. He also was known to take several young kids hunting for deer, pheasant, and turkey and fishing at area lakes and ponds. He always tried to cook what he caught. He also liked hunting for wild berries along the country roads and made many jellies that he shared with everyone. He said the poison berries would numb your tongue, so he always taste-tested the berries before picking them.
Some of John's other hobbies were bowling, woodworking, welding, rock carving, and gardening. He also served as a Big Brother for many years. He served as a Deacon and Trustee for the First Christian Church. He had many pets that he loved just like they were his kids.
The last seventeen years of his life were filled with love for his wife, Konnie and her family. They enjoyed taking their camper to the lake for weekend retreats where they would spend many special hours together. Together, John and Konnie became members of the Praise Team at the First Christian Church, where John shared another hidden talent no one knew about, SINGING.
He was preceded in death by his brother Pete and grandparents Bertha Babcock and Bill and Florence Jarvis. Survivors include his loving wife Konnielyn, step-children Christopher, Brian, Stacie, Sandra and Jason, parents Wendell and Beverly Jarvis, and brothers Stuart and Shane along with many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
Funeral services were held at Thursday, June 23 rd , 2022 at the First Christian Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Phillips County, KS.
