John E. Strong, son of Guy Ada & Mable A. (Middlebusher) Strong, was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on April 2, 1922. He died June 4, 2011 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 89.
After graduating from high school, John served in the Army during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Betty Mae Kerr on January 26, 1946 in Lyons, Kansas. This union was blessed with one son, Michael, and four daughters: Sandra, Glenda, Kathleen and Nancy.
John worked as a Maintenance Foreman for Farmland Industries in Phillipsburg for many years.
He was a devoted husband and father who loved the Lord. Throughout his life he set a shining example for his children, who were truly blessed by his loving, humble spirit. John leaves a legacy of compassion and servitude to all those who knew and loved him.
He will be greatly missed.
His parents and wife, Betty, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his son, Michael & wife, Janis, of Golden, CO; his daughters: Sandra Cook of Larned, KS; Glenda Branch of Littleton, CO; Kathy Ives & husband, Danny, of Las Vegas, NV; and Nancy Perkins & husband, Mitch, of St. Robert, MO; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and his sister, Jacque Thompson, of Salina, KS.
Funeral services will be held Wed., June 8, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
Visitation will be Tuesday from noon – 9 p.m. and again Wed. until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian Church.
