Obituary

Johnny U Smith passed away November 21, 2022 at the Logan Manor in Logan, KS at the age of 85.   He was born November 4, 1937 to Lonnie and Beryl (Snyder) Smith in Bogue, KS .  He married Wanda Wise on June 14, 1956 in Phillipsburg, KS.  To  this union three daughters were born: Sheila, Teresa and Robin.

Johnny graduated from Logan High School in 1956.  After High School he stayed at home to help his parents with the milking and took care of a neighbor's horses.  He worked at the Phillipsburg Sale barn from 1958 until it closed in 1993.  He retired from Phillipsburg City Department in 2008.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding horses, camping, and old western movies.

Johnny is survived by his children: Teresa Lewis of Grinnell, KS and  Robin Smith of Smith Center, KS; 6 grandchildren: Chad Widener and Tonya Keim of Hesston, KS, Hayden Lewis (Brittany), Connor Lewis (Katie) of Grinnell, KS, Jessica Chandler of Great Bend, Jeramy Brancroft (Brett) of Lincoln, NE, Taite Anderson (Lindsey) of Sabetha, KS. 8 great-grandchildren and one on the way: Cash and Laine Widener, Gavin and Brigham Lewis, Michael and Jazmine Chandler, Matthias and Makelle Anderson; his brothers, Carl of Logan, Bob of Norton, Rex of Longview, WA & Stan of Logan; sisters, Lucille Smith of Randle, WA & Kay Ferrer of Wichita, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Beryl Smith, wife, Wanda Smith, daughter Sheila Widener, granddaughter Chassidy Widener,  sisters Johnita Chestnut, son-in-law Larri Lewis

Cremation was chosen.  A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Chris Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Logan Manor.

Friends may sign the book from 9:00 to 9:00 Thursday and Friday at the funeral home.
