Obituary

Logan resident, Joseph Francis Lohrmeyer, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the age of 94.

He was born October 30, 1921, in Norton County, Kansas, the youngest son of Joseph John and Margaret (Webber) Lohrmeyer of Logan. He grew up on the farm and
attended Champion Hill School through the eighth grade. He did not finish high school
as he wanted to farm.

Joe was called to serve his country during World War II. He joined the Marines October
4, 1944 and was a 60mm Mortar Crewman in Company H - 3rd Battalion 26th Marines 5th
Marine Division. He served in the Pacific Area and the occupation of Japan. He was
honorably discharged December 10, 1946 as a Corporal.

Joe returned to Logan and resumed farming. On August 17, 1949, he was united in
marriage to Nina Cotten of Logan. To this union, two children were born - Rebecca
JoAnn and Gerald Wayne.

While living in Norton County he spent 14 years on the township board and 7 years on
the Board of Directors at Logan Farmers Union Coop. On February 6, 1988, the
Lohrmeyer's received the 1987 Soil Conservation Award. Joe lived on the
family farm until 1981 when he moved east of Logan.

Joe also took time to be involved in other activities. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church where he was Lay Distributor, Lector, and served on the Parish Council. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, a life member of VFW Post 1360 of Phillipsburg, and a member of American Legion Post 281 in Logan.

Joe loved traveling. He crossed every state line except Alaska and Wisconsin. He also took one trip to Winnipeg, Canada.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nina; his daughter, Rebecca; four
brothers - John, JB, Henry and Adolph; and two sisters, Elizabeth Miller and Anna Walker.

Joe is survived by his son, Gerald of Queen Creek, AZ, one grandson, and his sister,
Gertrude Miller of Pueblo, CO. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be Sat. & Sunday from noon – 9:00 p.m. at the Logan Funeral Home in Logan.

A Rosary service will be held Sunday evening, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home with the family receiving friends afterward until 8:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice Services or Logan Manor.
