Joyce Laverne (Beisner) Rupp left this earthly life on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas at the age of 77.
She was born May 12, 1942 in Natoma, Kansas, the daughter of Floyd & Eva (Kirkendall) Beisner. When she was a young girl her family moved to Alma, Nebraska where she attended school until 7 th grade. The family relocated to Phillipsburg, Kansas, where Joyce finished school and graduated with the Phillipsburg High School class of 1959.
After high school she traveled to California and went to work in a bank. It was here that she met her future husband, Leo Rupp, whom she married on November 17, 1960 in San Francisco. The couple lived in Sacramento and Lake Port, CA until 1991, when they moved back to Phillipsburg.
Joyce served as Manager of the Phillipsburg Chamber of Commerce for several years then went to work for St. Francis Community Services, helping children in need of parents through foster care. From 1994 – 2002, she & Leo loved and cared for 126 children who needed homes.
Joyce was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg. Throughout her lifetime, she had two distinct passions: her love for children and her love for animals, especially dogs and cats. She also cherished her friends and loved to spend time visiting and helping anyone in need.
Her parents, husband, Leo, four brothers and six sisters preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Leo, Jr. & wife, Jolynn, of California; two granddaughters, Jackie and Renae; four great-grandchildren; her sisters, Donna Wodecki of Holyoke, MA and Linda Getty of Rusk, TX; along with numerous nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Blake Stanwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 5, from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
