Juanita Pearl Lare, the daughter of Charles and Sara Surby-Green, was born July 17tb 1926 near
Phillipsburg, Kansas. She departed this life, September 16, 2015 at the Phillips County Hospital.
At a young age, she moved with her family into the Speed Community. She attended school
there, finishing her high school years at Phillipsburg with the Class of 1945. After going to Fort Hays
State College, she taught school in a one room school house and was a dedicated teacher.
On June 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Mervin E. Lare in Phillipsburg, Kansas. They
made their first home in Kirwin, Kansas. They became the parents of a daughter, Tanya. They lived in
Kirwin until 1949, and then moved to Phillipsburg. They became the parents of three more children; twin
daughters, Debra and Denise, and a son, Bradley.
Juanita was a member of the United Methodist Church. She served in the Women's Ministry and
other activities there.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for over 60 years. Her long time friendships and
activities in the church and community were very important to her.
She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her
kindness to others will long be remembered by the many friends she has made throughout the years.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband Mervin, her parents, Charles and Sara Green, a
sister, Cleda Fischli and an infant sister and brother.
Survivors include her daughters: Tanya Lare of Wichita, KS; Debra Carr and husband Randy of
Lafayette, IN and Denise Bach of Odenton, MD; one son, Bradley and wife, Shellie of Phillipsburg,
KS; two brothers, Dale Green and wife, JoAnn of California, Charles D. Green and wife, Ann of Texas;
seven grandchildren: Jeffery, Timothy and wife Cubendri, and Jonathan Bach; Mervin Lare and wife
Constance; Christine Geier and husband Reggie; Victoria Carr; and Shannon Lare; and eight great-
grandchildren: Ashleigh, Sara and Jacob Geier; Olivia, Abbilgail, Zarah and Addison Marshall; and
Zayden Bach.
She will be sadly missed by all of her family and her many friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 21, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Lew Van Der Wege officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, KS.
Mrs. Lare will lie in-state on Sat. & Sun. from noon – 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends Sunday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
