Obituary

Katherine M. Davis, born on September 3, 1926 to Fredrick and Catherine (Pope) Peil,
passed away in her sleep November 24th, 2017 in Wichita, KS at the age of 91, 2 months
and 21 days. Catherine Mae Peil was baptized at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Russell,
Kansas on November 7th, 1926.
Katie, as she preferred to be called, attended schools in Hoisington, Russell and Prairie
View, Kansas. When entering school she was taught to spell her name with a "K" instead
of a "C." She lived in Hoisington, Kansas until 1941 and then moved to Prairie View,
Kansas where she worked at Albert's Drug store and graduated from Prairie View High
School with the Class of 1944.
Katherine was united in marriage to Lyle H. Davis, Jr. of Phillipsburg, Kansas on May
11, 1946 in Norton, Kansas. To this union five children were born: daughters, Sandra
(Rex) Harman of Phillipsburg, Kansas and Denise (Robert) Hays of Wichita, Kansas
and sons, Howard Davis, Dodge City, Kansas, Joe H. Davis, Fremont, California, and
Loren P. Davis of Pleasanton, California.
Other survivors include six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law, John (Carmen) Davis,
Concordia, Kansas, Gerald Bredemeier, Phillipsburg, Kansas and Don Kozicek,
Holyrood, Kansas.
In the early years of their marriage Katie was employed at Witmer Drug and also played
softball with the Phillipsburg Imperials. Upon getting her children in school she was
employed at Mode "0" Day, Suzie's Cellar and Rankin Drug. Through the years Katie
was very active in her children's activities. She was a Bible school teacher, 4-H Leader
and attended countless sporting events.
Katie was a charter member of the Phillips County Genealogical Society spending many
hours doing family research and cataloging those who were buried in Phillips County.
She was a member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia to help
research her own family roots back in Russia and Germany.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Davis Jr.; parents, Fredrick Peil and
Catherine Peil; stepmother, Bertha (Karst) Wagner Peil; sisters, Clara McGee and Esther
Monroe; brothers, Edwin Peil, Paul Peil, Reuben Peil, Leo Peil, Milton Peil, and Leroy Peil;
half-brother, Alvin Peil; stepsisters, Edna Hacke, Florence Weiler, and Helen Pattison; step
brother, Fred Wagner; and one great-great-grandson.
Others preceding her in death include brother and sister-in-law, Loren and Jean Ferguson,
sister-in-law, Ilene Kozicek and sister-in-law, Phyllis Bredemeier.

Cremation was Chosen. A memorial service will be held Sat. January 13 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.

Memorials have been established to the Phillipsburg City Library.
