Rev. Larry Richard Shaw of Naponee, NE passed away early in the morning on March 7th, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE at the age of 72.
Larry was born July 20, 1943 in Phillips County, KS the son of Albert & Gladys (Scott) Shaw. He graduated from Naponee High School in 1961.
He was united in marriage to Janice C. Wahl on November 30, 1963 in Huron, South Dakota.
Following his marriage he worked at the Naponee Lumberyard for 7 years, before joining his father and grandfather on the family farm in 1970. Later, he felt a call to preach the gospel and took classes toward that end, becoming licensed and then ordained as a Minister with The Wesleyan Church. Rev. Shaw was appointed as acting pastor at The Naponee Wesleyan Church in Naponee, NE, later becoming the pastor of Imperial Wesleyan Church in Imperial NE from 1981 to 1998 and then pastor of Englewood Wesleyan Church in rural Kansas from 1998 to 2009. From 2014 until his passing, he served as Pastoral Mentor for Pastor Jay Brandon of The Free Methodist Church, in Alma, NE.
Larry loved Jesus, the farm, and his family.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack Scott; his parents; a sister, Judy Ann Shaw; a son, Ronald Eugene; and a granddaughter, Taylor Shaw.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jan of the home; 3 children, Richard & wife, Karen of Portland, Oregon, Robert & wife, Trina of Kearney, NE and Robin Spady & husband, Blaine of Lincoln, NE; 7 grandchildren, Madison and Parker, Marissa, Bethany and Jordan, and Eleanor and Silas; and a sister, Linda Schluntz & husband, Ray of Naponee, NE.
Larry truly got to do what he loved, all his life, preaching the gospel, farming, and family. If he could tell you one thing, it would be to make Jesus the center of your life; You will never regret it. He surely never did.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Naponee Wesleyan Church in Naponee, Nebraska with Pastor's Scott Randall & Jay Brandon officiating. Burial will follow in the Naponee Cemetery.
Larry will lie in state from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, Kansas. The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the Naponee Wesleyan Church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Larry R. Shaw Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date.
