Obituary

Louis Lavern Holle, son of John & Martha (Hanson) Holle, was born August 17, 1930 on the family farm in Rawlins County, Kansas and passed away at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska on October 3, 2010 at the age of 80 years.

Vern grew up on the farm, working side-by-side with his family until he graduated from Atwood High School in 1948. He attended one year at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas and then entered the United States Marine Corp, serving from 1951-1953.

On August 24, 1958, Vern married Carolyn Soderlund in Oberlin, Kansas. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Jean Ann.

Vern finished his college education in 1959 at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, graduating with a degree in Animal Husbandry. His enriching life of service to the public began with his first job as an extension agent in Greenwood County, Kansas.

He later returned to Rawlins County to work in the ASCS office, and then in 1962 accepted a position with the State Bank of Herndon. Vern & Carolyn purchased controlling interest in the Farmers National Bank of Agra, Kansas in 1973, where they worked together side-by-side each day for the next 37 years.

Vern spent each day helping individuals and enjoying the rural, agricultural environment around him. His vision for each customer and their future led to many meaningful and personal relationships in his banking career, which he enjoyed to the end of his life.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of the home in Agra, KS; daughter, Jean Ann Wagner & husband, Stan, of Phillipsburg, KS; grandchildren, Eric and Kristin Wagner; brother-in-law, Rev. Ernest Collard of Wenatchee, WA; sister-in-law, Violet Holle of Atwood, KS; and aunt & uncle, Gerry & Mildred Lider of Bellevue, WA.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington with Pastor Lorna Paulus & Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial followed in the Agra Cemetery, Agra, with military honors conducted by the Agra American Legion & Mt. Suribachi Marine Corp League.
